Why exfoliation before shaving reduces ingrown hairs
The surface of the skin is covered by a layer of dead skin cells (the stratum corneum). When a cut hair regrows, it sometimes encounters this layer before it reaches the surface and curls sideways or back into the follicle. The result: an ingrown hair.

Physical vs. chemical exfoliants: which is better before shaving?
Both can work, but they carry different risks and suit different skin types.
Chemical exfoliants (AHA/BHA) — preferred for shaved areas
Chemical exfoliants work by dissolving the bonds between dead skin cells, allowing them to shed without mechanical abrasion.
